Initially I designed these tipper boxes as gift boxes for friends and got inspiration from the local, South Lakeland, landscapes. Then I went on to show them in local art society exhibitions and they have proved to be very popular.
The line designs in the lids are made from dark wood veneers with a contrasting lighter coloured wood, usually sycamore. The framework can be made from any of the woods I have available, oak, ash, teak, mahogany or American black walnut.
The lid of the box fits flush with the top and an internal collar holds it in place. This collar is angled on one side allowing the lid to be pressed downwards and the box to be opened.
These tipper boxes can be made from pencil box size up to shoe box size. The smaller boxes will have mitred joints and the larger boxes would have to be dovetailed or dowel jointed for strength so will cost more
